FAQ
Kill Orbit is live as a public beta, building in public. If your question is not here, ask in Telegram.
The game
What is Kill Orbit?
An action-RPG shooter for Windows, made by DataGuys. It has a single-player campaign of eight chapters and 168 missions — Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Paris, New York, Hong Kong, the Station, the Moon and Mars — and live online multiplayer on nine dedicated servers.
What platform is it on?
Windows PC only (Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit). No other platform has been announced.
Can I play it now?
Yes. Kill Orbit is live as a free public beta, and we are building in public. Download the current Windows build from killorbit.com/play.
Is it single-player or multiplayer?
Both. The campaign is single-player. Multiplayer runs on dedicated servers: two purpose-built arenas and seven of the campaign cities.
The beta and the download
How do I get the beta?
Go to killorbit.com/play, sign in with email or a Solana wallet, and press Download for Windows.
Does it cost anything?
The current public beta is free to download.
Are the demo, beta, campaign and multiplayer separate downloads?
No. There is one Kill Orbit game and one current Windows build. Every download button provides the same KillOrbit-Windows.zip, containing the campaign and multiplayer. Updates replace the current download at killorbit.com/play; there are no separate demo or beta editions to choose from.
My download failed with “needs authorization”, or it asks me for a password.
Download from /play while you are signed in: that button needs no password. The password prompt belongs to the older direct link for testers. If a download stops part-way, resume it from your browser’s downloads list instead of starting again.
How big is it, and what do I need?
The download is one 15.2 GB zip. You need Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), a DirectX 12 graphics card (a DirectX 11 fallback is included), and at least 20 GB free for the extracted game, plus room for the zip while you extract it. Detailed minimum specs have not been published yet.
How do I install and update it?
Right-click the zip and choose Extract All, or use 7-Zip. Open the KillOrbit-Demo folder (Extract All puts it inside a KillOrbit-Windows folder) and run the KillOrbit.exe at the top of that folder, not the one under KillOrbit\Binaries. To update, extract the new zip over your old copy, or extract it somewhere new and copy KillOrbit-Demo\KillOrbit\Saved across. Step by step: install and update.
The game asks to install Visual C++ or GameInput, or closes as soon as I start it.
Kill Orbit needs two Microsoft components, the Visual C++ runtime and GameInput. If your PC is missing either, the game offers to install it: choose Yes and allow the Windows prompt. Both installers come with the game, in Engine\Extras\Redist\en-us inside the game folder; you can also run them from there yourself.
Builds downloaded before 24 September 2026 did not include them and just close with a message that the installer is missing. Download the current build and extract it over your old folder.
Windows 11 blocked the game with Smart App Control.
Smart App Control blocks apps that are not code-signed, and the beta build is not signed yet. It has no “Run anyway” option: the game runs only with Smart App Control turned off, in Windows Security under App & browser control. Read Microsoft’s note there before you change it.
Will I lose my campaign progress when I update?
Not if you extract over your old copy or copy KillOrbit-Demo\KillOrbit\Saved into the new one: that folder holds your save. Link the latest beta with L to sync your campaign save to your account. On another PC, sign in to restore it. If local and cloud saves differ, choose which to keep; the game backs up the copy it replaces.
What state is the beta in?
It is a beta, so expect rough edges and frequent updates. The whole campaign, all 168 missions, is in the build, and all nine servers are live.
Are there terms for the beta?
Yes, in plain language: the beta terms. In short, the beta is free for personal use, it is a beta so progress and stats can be lost or reset, cheating gets accounts suspended, and nothing in it has money value.
Accounts and wallets
Do I need an account?
Yes, to download the beta: a free Kill Orbit account. Online play will require linking your game to it. The account also holds your profile, your leaderboard record and your synced campaign progress.
How do I sign in?
With a one-time code sent to your email, or with a Solana wallet such as Phantom. Sign-in is handled by our identity provider, Privy. Use Sign in at the top of any page.
What is the difference between signing in here and linking the game?
Signing in on the website lets you download the beta and manage your account and wallets. It lasts 7 days on that browser.
Linking the game signs the game itself in as the same account, so your matches count on the leaderboard. In the game press L, then enter the code at killorbit.com/link. A linked game stays signed in for 30 days.
Which wallets can I use?
Solana wallets. Signing in by email creates a Solana wallet for you automatically. You can also sign in with, or link, your own Solana wallet such as Phantom. Manage them on Account & wallet.
Is my wallet address public?
No. Your addresses are shown only to you, on your account page and in your own header. Your public profile shows a “wallet verified” badge and nothing more.
Do I need crypto to play?
No. You do not need $KBUX or any other crypto to play the beta.
Can I change my callsign, or hide my profile?
Yes. On Account & wallet you can change your callsign and bio, or make your profile private, which also keeps you off the public leaderboard.
How do I sign out?
Open the account menu at the top right and choose Sign out. That ends your website session, and the Privy sign-in, in this browser. It does not sign your game out: a linked game stays signed in for its 30 days. To end every session at once, use Sign out everywhere on Account & wallet, and tick Also sign the game out to make the game ask you to link again at its next start.
Multiplayer
How do I play online?
Link your game first (press L, then killorbit.com/link). At the main menu press M to open the server browser, pick a server and join.
Which servers are there?
Nine: The Garage (duel) and Downtown Boulevard (6v6 teams), plus Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Paris, New York, Hong Kong, the Moon and Mars in teams mode. The multiplayer page shows who is on each one right now.
Do I have to sign in to play online?
Online play will require a linked account. Link now, because your matches count on the leaderboard and your profile only when your game is linked.
How does ranking work?
A match is ranked when at least two signed-in players finish it. Ratings start at 1200 and move only in ranked matches. The Teams and Duel boards are ordered by rating and the Overall board by eliminations. Unranked matches still show on your profile.
My game says an update is required.
Multiplayer requires the exact current Kill Orbit release on every server. Older or different versions must update before joining, so everyone plays with the same game rules. Download the latest build from /play and extract it over your old folder.
$KBUX
What is $KBUX?
The Kill Orbit token. It is coming soon, built on Solana, and will probably launch before the game’s public release. Later it is planned to buy buildings, cars and unique special items in game. More on the $KBUX page.
Is there a contract address yet?
No. The address will be posted on the $KBUX page and in the official Kill Orbit Telegram at launch. Until then, any token that claims to be $KBUX is not ours.
Do I need $KBUX to play?
No. The beta does not use $KBUX at all.
Privacy and help
What do you store about me?
Your account id from Privy, your callsign and profile settings, your linked wallet addresses, your match results and your campaign save when you enable cloud sync in a linked game. Your email address stays with Privy and is never shown on the site. The details are in the privacy notice.
How do I delete my account, or get a copy of my data?
Email [email protected] from the address you signed in with, so we can tell the request is yours. Please keep personal details out of Telegram: it is a public group.
How do I get help or report a bug?
Ask in the Kill Orbit Telegram. Tell us your build date, what you did and what happened.
